In May 2025, Pope Leo XIV was elected in the wake of Pope Francis’s passing. Rather than frame the moment as a mere transition of leadership, Pope Leo XIV described it as a paschal event — an invitation into death, silence, and rebirth. His opening words offered neither doctrinal proclamation nor political strategy, but peace: “Peace be with all of you.”
This white paper accepts the Pope’s invitation and situates his early words and gestures within a larger spiritual and civilizational context. We argue that his pontificate marks the opening of a threshold of grace — a liminal period in which global systems, symbolic vocabularies, and spiritual institutions must be reconstituted toward coherence.
Through a synthesis of Catholic Social Teaching, systemic design, and spiritual anthropology, the paper explores:
- Grace as a coherence attractor: the participatory pattern through which God draws systems and souls into alignment
- Coherence as structural fidelity to life: across time, labor, institution, and community
- Mercy as a logic of institutional design: embedded into law, economy, governance, and ritual
- Jubilee as civilizational sabbath: the rhythm of release, rest, reconciliation, and repair
- Threshold leadership: modeled by Pope Leo XIV’s humility, presence, and symbolic restraint
The document culminates in a call for a Declaration of Graceful Civilization and outlines pathways for a planetary Jubilee rooted in structural mercy and sacred time. It proposes that the Church serve not as global ruler but as spiritual midwife — hosting interfaith, intercultural, and intersystemic dialogues on coherence, while embodying the sacramental rhythms of the Risen Christ.
Pope Leo XIV reminds us:
“Christ precedes us.”
We are not called to build a future from fear or control. We are called to listen, to tend, and to become docile to the whisper of coherence that is already here.
