The Life-Coherence Atlas

A Map of the Life-Knowledge Commons

The Life-Coherence Atlas is a guide to the work gathered on this website.

It is not a separate theory or a finished system. It is a map for navigating a living body of inquiry into health, healing, economy, peace, wisdom, medicine, governance, ecology, spirituality, and civilizational repair.

The central question is:

What protects, restores, and expands life-capacity — and what disables it while appearing normal, profitable, efficient, lawful, successful, or inevitable?

This Atlas helps organize the work around that question.

The Core Pattern

Across the many papers, videos, diagrams, audiobooks, and reflections on this site, one pattern keeps appearing:

Life is the ground.
Knowledge is for life.
Economy is for life.
Medicine is for life.
Governance is for life.
Peace is for life.
Technology is for life.
Spirituality is for life.
Civilization is for life.

When any of these instruments turns against life, a great inversion has occurred.

The task of life-coherent repair is to notice the inversion, name it clearly, protect what remains life-enabling, restore what has been damaged, and redesign the conditions of living so that life-capacity can continue.

The Main Territories

The work can be entered through several major territories.

1. The Life-Coherent Framework

This is the conceptual heart of the Commons.

It gathers the central distinctions:

  • life-ground
  • life-value
  • life-capacity
  • life-coherence
  • civil commons
  • structural violence
  • cultural violence
  • the great inversion
  • world-bringing
  • autopoiesis
  • legitimate coexistence
  • Field Cycle of Repair
  • viability grammar

This territory asks:

What manner of living are we conserving, and what happens to life when we conserve it?

2. Health & Healing

This territory explores health as life-capacity enabled.

It brings together medicine, public health, salutogenesis, salugenesis, embodiment, root causes, care, prevention, healing, and human flourishing.

It asks:

What conditions allow persons, bodies, communities, and ecosystems to heal, develop, adapt, repair, and flourish?

3. Economy & Progress

This territory examines the difference between money-value and life-value.

It includes work on Beyond GDP, the Midas Trap, financial capture, monetary abstraction, unequal exchange, civil commons, provisioning systems, and an economy answerable to life.

It asks:

Does the economy serve life, or has life been reorganized to serve the economy?

4. Peace & Repair

This territory explores peace as more than the absence of war.

It includes structural violence, cultural violence, sacred memory, trauma, security, positive peace, civil commons peace infrastructure, and non-forcing repair.

It asks:

What must be protected, restored, and redesigned so that legitimate coexistence becomes possible again?

5. Wisdom & World-Bringing

This territory explores the inner and relational conditions through which livable worlds are brought forth.

It includes Maturana, Vervaeke, emotional sentience, spirituality, meaning, metanoia, wu-wei, attention, relevance, distinction-making, and the biology of love.

It asks:

What distinctions, emotions, and practices help us bring forth worlds in which life can remain livable?

6. Caribbean / SIDS Lab

This territory applies the framework to St. Kitts and Nevis, the Caribbean, and small island developing states.

It includes climate vulnerability, public health, water quality, food systems, debt, disaster preparedness, governance, resilience, and the civil commons.

It asks:

How can life-coherent repair become practical in a specific place, under real constraints?

7. Tools for Life-Coherent Repair

This territory gathers practical instruments for diagnosis, reflection, and action.

These include:

  • the Life-Coherence Test
  • the Great Inversion Detector
  • the Viability Grammar Worksheet
  • the Civil Commons Checklist
  • the Field Cycle of Repair
  • the Life-Coherent Dashboard

It asks:

What can we use to see more clearly, decide more wisely, and repair more coherently?

8. Library

The Library gathers the wider archive of papers, audio versions, videos, diagrams, glossaries, references, project hubs, and learning materials.

It asks:

Where can I find the full body of work, and how can I follow its development over time?

The Three Foundational Streams

The work in this Commons is especially shaped by three foundational streams.

John McMurtry

McMurtry clarifies the life-ground of value: that which enables life to be more coherently lived. His work helps distinguish life-value from money-value, life-capital from financial capital, and civil commons from systems of life-blind accumulation.

Humberto Maturana

Maturana shows that living beings bring forth worlds through their distinctions, relations, emotions, and coordinations of action. His work helps ground life-coherence in the biology of living, loving, languaging, and legitimate coexistence.

Johan Galtung

Galtung shows that violence is not only direct injury. It also appears structurally and culturally, through systems that prevent people and communities from realizing their life-capacities. His work helps diagnose peace as the repair of life-disabling conditions.

Together, these streams help form a triadic foundation:

Life-value.
World-bringing.
Anti-violence.

The Working Compass

The Atlas can be used as a compass.

When approaching any issue — a disease, institution, policy, conflict, economy, technology, or way of life — the same diagnostic questions can be asked:

What is being conserved?
What is being disabled?
Whose life-capacity is expanding?
Whose life-capacity is being sacrificed?
What instruments have become ends in themselves?
What civil commons are being weakened or strengthened?
What distinctions make the harm visible or invisible?
What repair is possible now?
What would allow life to remain livable?

How to Use This Atlas

Begin with the doorway that matches your concern.

If you are concerned with health, begin with Health & Healing.
If you are concerned with economics, begin with Economy & Progress.
If you are concerned with conflict, begin with Peace & Repair.
If you are concerned with meaning, begin with Wisdom & World-Bringing.
If you are concerned with practical application, begin with Tools for Life-Coherent Repair or the Caribbean / SIDS Lab.
If you want the full conceptual overview, begin with The Life-Coherent Framework.

No single pathway is required.

The work is meant to be entered, explored, tested, revised, and applied.

The Purpose of the Commons

The purpose of the Life-Knowledge Commons is not to impose another doctrine.

Its purpose is to help recover a basic capacity:

To see what serves life.
To name what disables life.
To protect what enables life.
To repair what has been damaged.
To redesign what has become life-blind.
To participate in bringing forth worlds in which life can remain livable.

This is the work of life-coherent civilization.
