From Root Causes to Life-Enabling Action
This Project Hub gathers the materials for A Life-Coherent Framework for Health, Healing, and Human Flourishing: From Root Causes to Life-Enabling Action.
This work applies the Life-Coherent Framework to health, medicine, public health, healing, flourishing, and the living conditions through which persons, communities, and ecosystems become able to recover, adapt, participate, and thrive.
The guiding question is:
What must be protected, restored, or redesigned so that health becomes life-capacity enabled?
Why This Project Matters
Modern medicine is powerful and necessary.
It can diagnose, treat, stabilize, palliate, operate, suppress, rescue, and prolong life.
But medicine becomes incomplete when health is reduced to disease management alone.
A life-coherent approach asks not only:
What disease does this person have?
It also asks:
What conditions are enabling or disabling this person’s capacity to heal, adapt, participate, and flourish?
Health is not located only inside the body.
It arises through the living relation between body, person, community, ecology, economy, care, culture, meaning, and the wider life-ground.
The Core Claim
Health is best understood as life-capacity enabled.
Healing is life-capacity restored.
Flourishing is life-capacity expressed in dignity, relation, meaning, participation, creativity, ecological belonging, and the ability to live coherently within a living world.
This shifts the question from:
How do we manage disease more efficiently?
to:
How do we protect and restore the conditions through which life can heal?
Salugenesis and Salutogenesis
This project brings together two movements that are often separated.
Salugenesis
Salugenesis refers to the inner biological processes through which the body generates, maintains, and restores living coherence.
It includes metabolism, immunity, repair, regeneration, nervous system regulation, emotional integration, endocrine balance, mitochondrial function, microbiome ecology, and the body’s capacity to return toward coherence after disturbance.
Salutogenesis
Salutogenesis refers to the outer conditions that make health possible.
It includes food, water, shelter, care, education, belonging, meaningful work, safety, public health, trust, ecological integrity, cultural continuity, and the civil commons.
Healing requires both.
The body needs inner capacity for repair.
The person also needs a world that does not continually defeat repair.
Root Causes and Life-Conditions
A life-coherent approach does not stop at symptoms.
Symptoms matter. Diagnosis matters. Treatment matters. Relief matters.
But many forms of illness arise downstream from damaged conditions of living.
Chronic disease, mental distress, burnout, loneliness, addiction, inflammatory illness, metabolic dysfunction, trauma, and ecological illness cannot be understood only as individual failure.
They often reveal a field of living that has become incoherent.
The diagnostic question becomes:
What field of life is this illness expressing?
Medicine as Life-Serving Practice
Medicine is most life-coherent when it remains answerable to the living person.
The patient is not a disease category.
The body is not a machine.
The symptom is not the whole story.
The protocol is not the same as care.
The treatment is not the same as healing.
The metric is not the same as life.
A life-serving medicine asks:
What is being disturbed?
What is the person trying to conserve?
What capacities remain?
What margin is available?
What life-conditions are blocking repair?
What support would allow healing to become possible?
What intervention helps without creating greater harm?
Public Health and the Civil Commons
Health depends on the civil commons.
Clean water, sanitation, food systems, housing, public health, education, ecological protection, emergency response, social trust, democratic participation, and shared knowledge are not secondary to health.
They are health infrastructure.
A life-coherent health system asks:
Are we treating disease while leaving the life-ground damaged?

Deep Dive: Why Your Body Can’t Finish Healing
A conversational entry into the project’s central insight: the body cannot complete healing when the surrounding field continues to defeat repair.
Debate: Fixing the Environment or Our Cells
A critical exchange around whether healing should begin inside the body, outside in the environment, or through the living relation between both.
Critique: Translating Life Capacity into Clinical Practice
A stress-test of how the framework can move from theory into medical, clinical, and public health practice.

How This Project Connects to the Commons
This project connects directly to the main pathways of the Life-Knowledge Commons:
The Life-Coherent Framework — the core grammar.
Health & Healing — the main pathway for this project.
Tools for Life-Coherent Repair — practical questions and worksheets for diagnosis and repair.
Caribbean / SIDS Lab — place-based application in health systems, climate resilience, water, food, and public health.
Wisdom & World-Bringing — the deeper question of how medicine, diagnosis, and public health bring forth worlds.
Economy & Progress — the connection between health, provisioning, money-value, care, and the civil commons.
Library — the deeper archive of related materials.
Suggested Pathway
For a gentle entry, proceed in this order:
- Read this Project Hub.
- Visit the original project post.
- Listen to the Deep Dive.
- Review the PPT / PDF.
- Read the full Academic White Paper when ready.
- Return to Tools for Life-Coherent Repair and ask how the framework applies to a real health situation.
No one needs to enter the whole project at once.
Begin where the concern is alive.
Working Questions
Use this project to ask:
What is being treated?
What is being healed?
What life-capacity is being restored?
What life-capacity is being disabled?
What symptoms are expressing a damaged field of living?
What biological repair processes need support?
What social and ecological conditions are defeating repair?
What civil commons are needed for health?
What would medicine look like if it served life before metrics, markets, or protocols?
What must be protected, restored, or redesigned so that healing can complete itself?
Invitation
Health and healing begin when life is no longer reduced to disease, productivity, risk, cost, or survival.
They begin when the living person is seen within the living field.
They begin when medicine, public health, ecology, economy, care, and community become answerable to the same question:
What must be protected, restored, or redesigned so that life can heal and flourish?
