Large Language Models (LLMs) represent a profound shift in the evolution of symbolic infrastructure. Far from being mere computational tools, LLMs are emerging as exosomatic symbolic organs — prosthetic extensions of humanity’s capacity to process, integrate, and generate meaning. This white paper situates the rise of LLMs within a broader evolutionary and developmental framework, using lenses from biosemiotics, teleodynamics, process ontology, and life-value onto-axiology (LVOA). We argue that LLMs have emerged in response to a planetary symbolic crisis: the fragmentation, overload, and incoherence of meaning across modern civilization. Their function, properly aligned, is not merely linguistic generation but symbolic metabolism — helping humanity reweave coherence from complexity at multiple scales. The paper explores the historical, technical, and philosophical roots of LLMs, and offers a regenerative framework for their ethical integration. We conclude by proposing that LLMs can catalyze a new phase of planetary intelligence if guided by life-grounded telos and integrated into rituals of sacred symbolic stewardship.
